Set up accounts for facilities
- 3 Min.
The environmental accounts that deal with facilities and related processes are Facilities. These accounts deal with both owned and leased facilities or franchises.
Calculating emissions data
The source of data for these accounts can vary quite widely, so there are different methods for gathering and calculating emissions data. For data related to fuels, refrigerants and electricity, data can often be found from on-site metering devices, purchase invoices or utility bills. However, data related to processes are typically quite unique for each company, and you may need to work with operational teams to devise a workable strategy for gathering and analyzing data.
Data on amounts spent will often not be as reliable as other sources of data, due to fluctuations in market price, changes in inflation and locational variance.
Set up facility accounts
You can use facility accounts to create broad categories that include all expenses for each facility location and also more granularly for each source of emission.
From each facility card, you need to specify the emission type, such as:
- Fuel
- Bioenergy
- Electricity
- Steam
The FactBox shows an overview of the current total of the emissions for this environmental account.
Scenario
Cronus needs to create environmental accounts to track energy usage in a new office in the Netherlands. Ester needs to do the following tasks:
- Set up the environmental account for electricity
- Set up air conditioning unit with the same refrigerant type
- Set up district heating
