Use G/L Accounts with report row definition
- 5 min.
The Extended Financial Reports Module includes a feature that helps you more quickly define financial report rows through G/L Account Groups. This extends the standard functionality of Business Central financial reports, which relies on using account categories and subcategories in the row definition of financial reports.
With the G/L Account Groups, you have the flexibility to specify your own groupings of G/L accounts to meet your specific needs. Furthermore, you can use the same G/L account in multiple G/L Account Groups.
Set up G/L Account Group captions
The first step is to specify the different groups that you need to create. You can create up to eight groups, and you can give these groups customized captions to show in the chart of accounts and financial reporting pages.
Navigate to the Extended Financial Reports Setup page.
In the Account Groups FastTab, enter captions to describe the purpose for each of the G/L account groups.
Add G/L account group codes
Next you specify the codes for organizing the G/L accounts within each account group. You can create as many codes as you need, and assign multiple G/L accounts to the same code.
Navigate to the G/L Account Groups Setup page.
Select the relevant Code, then use the Edit List action to create new codes and add descriptions.
Link accounts to G/L account group codes
From the Chart of Accounts, you can see the eight columns for the G/L account groups.
Note
The column captions in the Chart of Accounts are set up on the Extended Financial Reports Setup page.
You can add or remove G/L accounts for each code directly from the column fields in the Chart of Accounts.
Alternatively, you can assign G/L account groups to an individual account from the account card. This saves you time when you create new G/L accounts, because no further setup is needed to ensure that the account is included in financial reports that use the G/L account groups.
Use G/L account groups in row definition
Once you have set up G/L account groups, you can use the account group codes in the row definitions of financial reports.
In the Totaling Type column, select the relevant G/L account group.
Then in the Totaling column, enter the relevant G/L account group code.
